    the Open World Dilemma

Also: A million switches. Common events are your best friend. EVERYTHING (yes- ALL wild pokemon and trainers) has to scale based on player progress in order to make levels feel balanced. see above comment about this being a ton of work. the basic plug and play dynamics that come with...

    the Open World Dilemma

Open world games are my favorite, and I've posted some threads talking about the game I'm currently working on, which is an open world game (and also one which adapts to the player's choices). I'm not going to respond to everything you've prompted because I'm trying to only take a five minute...

Thanks! That is really helpful. It's always a bit difficult to get a feel for the space in a game when you're just making maps. I generally tweak a lot of maps after I start doing my own demo. I definitely agree that empty maps get boring quickly. However, one of the elements of my game is all...

Ooh those are both very helpful. I haven't thought about a cover legendary... I also really like the subversion/insurrection theme you guys are good

thanks, that's really phenomenal praise. Some responses: -I'm making it for ME first, and I'm a hardcore game snob, which is why I'm also cautiously optimistic that its going to be a good game (did someone say narcissist?) - my favorite games of all time are as open world as possible...

    Feedback Map Showcase

Full game map -any and all feedback welcome This is an open world game- hence the lack of boundaries. You are meant to be able to climb/wander/walk/surf willy nilly to your heart's content. Some changes will need to be made just for my own person aesthetic values. Let me know what you think...

I really need a name for my game and keep coming up blank. It's open world (see maps posted in the few posts above) and a very large game. I really liked the reborn/rejuvination/etc titles because I'm altering quite a bit of standard Pokemon game play for my own satisfaction, but alas those...

No gates. To be honest I'm not sure if it'll work at all, but I've done some gametesting for the concept and the maps have loaded fine. I compensated for linking a million maps together by making each of them quite small individually, that way rpg maker is only trying to populate a few small...

I think I'm going to have *just* enough. Even with 600 overworld maps, I don't foresee having 399 interior maps all said. My towns are all fairly small and so the majority will be caves/underwater/tunnels, and in terms of playing, when you get into the hundreds of those it gets wayyyy too...

Also just realized that i never replied to Hematite. That post was phenomenally helpful and I've read through it several times. Those were exactly the kind of tips I was looking for to help with spriting and I really really appreciate you taking the time to write it out. I've saved a copy to my...

Update on my new game's map progress. I still don't have a name for this project- but it's an open world pokemon game. See the post a couple pages earlier for more details :) Each square on the grid is a 20x20 map size in rpgmaker. They are stitched together to create one comprehensive map made...

Here's a sample so far of my first attempt at spriting, if anyone wants to give feedback. This is a lapras pre-evo. Probably going to call it Laplet or Laplad. Any and all constructive criticism is welcome! also I'm still listening for any suggestions of Pokemon that other people think need...

First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed response. I really appreciate the feedback! You've given me a lot to consider, but I especially appreciate the point re: the 4 stage evo lines that combine multiple pre-existing lines. I'm definitely going to ponder...

So the evolution aspect of Pokemon is one of the best parts IMO, but there are a lot of pokemon that I don't use because they don't evolve at all or because their evolution lines suck. I'm kind of toying with the idea of adding to some lines in order to make the less-used pokemon more...

Solved How to have the game check whether a wild pokemon is shiny?

and for the record, in case anyone else wants to know how I resolved the issue---- this is basically what I did (suggestion by chikorita) as my work around, but since my maps are "open world" style, I had the choose variables in the specific static encounters themselves
